Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, safe post-anesthesia care for patients recovering from surgery
- Assess and monitor vital signs, airway status, pain levels, and hemodynamic stability
- Manage airway and respiratory needs, including oxygen therapy and monitoring
- Administer medications safely and document responses and interventions
- Communicate effectively with anesthesiologists, surgeons, and interdisciplinary team members
- Educate patients and families on recovery expectations and discharge instructions
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the patient record
- Assist with triage and transfer of patients to appropriate levels of care
Qualifications
- Current RN license valid in the assignment state (Texas) or compact nurse privilege
- Minimum 1 year of recent clinical nursing experience (acute care or PACU experience preferred)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred or required by facility
- Current CPR certification and up-to-date immunizations per facility policy
- Strong assessment, critical thinking, and communication skills
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in post-anesthesia patient assessment and recovery monitoring
- Experience with airway management and respiratory support in PACU
- Proficient with IV medication administration and titration
- Comfortable using patient monitoring equipment and electronic health records
- Ability to prioritize care in a fast-paced surgical recovery environment
- Collaborative teamwork and clear communication with multidisciplinary teams
