Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform transthoracic, transesophageal, M-Mode and color-flow Doppler echocardiography with accuracy and professionalism
• Conduct exercise and pharmacological stress echocardiography as ordered by physicians
• Perform EKGs, Holter monitor setup/monitoring/analysis and cardiac stress testing
• Operate and maintain cardiac diagnostic equipment and ensure proper disinfection practices
• Assess scheduling and hospital information systems to process and document studies correctly
• Provide age-specific patient care, including neonatal and pediatric testing when required
• Serve as a clinical resource and provide preceptorship and guidance to students
• Collaborate with physicians and nursing staff to deliver high-quality diagnostic information

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credential required
• Successful completion of an echocardiography certification program or two years hands-on echocardiography experience
• Preferred: cardiovascular sonography certificate or completion of a certificate program
• Preferred: extensive hospital experience and experience with pediatric and neonatal echocardiography

Education

• High School Diploma or GED (required)
• Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography (preferred)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong echocardiography skills including transthoracic and transesophageal techniques
• Proficient with M-Mode, color-flow Doppler, exercise and pharmacological stress echo
• Experience performing EKGs, Holter monitoring and cardiac stress testing
• Familiarity with cardiac diagnostic equipment and computer analysis tools
• Knowledge of infection control, aseptic technique and equipment disinfection
• Comfortable working with patients of all ages and applying age-specific guidelines
• Experience using scheduling and hospital information systems (HIS)
