Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform transthoracic, transesophageal, M-Mode and color-flow Doppler echocardiography with accuracy and professionalism
- Conduct exercise and pharmacological stress echocardiography as ordered by physicians
- Perform EKGs, Holter monitor setup/monitoring/analysis and cardiac stress testing
- Operate and maintain cardiac diagnostic equipment and ensure proper disinfection practices
- Assess scheduling and hospital information systems to process and document studies correctly
- Provide age-specific patient care, including neonatal and pediatric testing when required
- Serve as a clinical resource and provide preceptorship and guidance to students
- Collaborate with physicians and nursing staff to deliver high-quality diagnostic information
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
- Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) credential required
- Successful completion of an echocardiography certification program or two years hands-on echocardiography experience
- Preferred: cardiovascular sonography certificate or completion of a certificate program
- Preferred: extensive hospital experience and experience with pediatric and neonatal echocardiography
Education
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Certificate Program in Cardiovascular Sonography (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong echocardiography skills including transthoracic and transesophageal techniques
- Proficient with M-Mode, color-flow Doppler, exercise and pharmacological stress echo
- Experience performing EKGs, Holter monitoring and cardiac stress testing
- Familiarity with cardiac diagnostic equipment and computer analysis tools
- Knowledge of infection control, aseptic technique and equipment disinfection
- Comfortable working with patients of all ages and applying age-specific guidelines
- Experience using scheduling and hospital information systems (HIS)
