Roles & Responsibilities
- Assist surgeons and the CVOR team during cardiovascular and open heart procedures with focus and precision
- Prepare and maintain a sterile field and ensure all instruments and implants are available and accounted for
- Anticipate surgeon needs and pass instruments efficiently to support patient safety and operative flow
- Participate in Trinity specialty competency testing and skills validation to maintain high standards
- Perform instrument counts, handle specimens properly, and document perioperative activities accurately
- Collaborate with nursing, anesthesia and perioperative staff to optimize patient outcomes and OR throughput
Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) required
- BLS (Basic Life Support) required
- Current open heart/CVOR experience required (experience must be recent and relevant)
- License and certificate verification as part of onboarding
- Completion of Trinity Skills Checklist and Trinity Specialty Specific Competency Testing required
- Must meet facility health requirements including immunizations, fit test and drug screen
Education
- Graduate of an accredited surgical technologist program or equivalent
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) credential required
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong mastery of sterile technique and operating room aseptic practices
- Familiarity with cardiovascular and open heart instrumentation and disposables
- Ability to anticipate surgeon needs and manage instrument flow under pressure
- Competence in surgical counts, specimen handling and perioperative documentation
- Team communication skills and the ability to work smoothly with multidisciplinary OR teams
