Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality patient care on a surgical trauma/PCU unit, focusing on post-op and acute surgical needs
- Monitor telemetry continuously and respond quickly to dysrhythmias and changes in cardiac status
- Administer and manage IV medications and drips safely, including heparin and vasoactive agents
- Perform thorough patient assessments and document vitals and changes every four hours
- Coordinate care for complex patients (trauma, vascular, neuro/spine, orthopedic and cardiac cases)
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement effective care plans
- Educate patients and families about procedures, recovery expectations and discharge plans
- Maintain a calm, professional presence during high-acuity events and support unit flow
Qualifications
- Current, active RN license (eligible to work in Texas) required
- ACLS, BLS and NIH Stroke Scale certification required
- Minimum 1 year of recent acute care nursing experience (PCU, telemetry, or surgical trauma preferred)
- Proven ability to manage telemetry patients and IV medication drips
- Strong customer service and communication skills; team player who adapts to changing environments
- Meditech experience preferred; trauma and orthopedic experience a plus
- Ability to float to stepdown and heart and vascular service lines as needed
Knowledge & Skills
- Telemetry monitoring and cardiac rhythm interpretation
- IV medication administration and drip titration
- Post-operative patient care and surgical assessment
- Frequent vital signs and Q4 patient assessments
- Experience with Meditech or similar EMR systems
- Strong clinical judgment, prioritization and delegation skills
- Effective bedside communication and patient-family education
