Roles & Responsibilities

• Implement individualized occupational therapy interventions as directed by the OTR to help patients regain independence
• Deliver compassionate, hands-on care for activities of daily living (ADLs) and functional mobility
• Document patient progress accurately and timely in the electronic medical record
• Collaborate with physical therapists, nurses, physicians, and family members to create cohesive care plans
• Educate patients and caregivers on adaptive techniques, home programs, and safe use of assistive devices
• Maintain therapy equipment, ensure a safe treatment environment, and follow infection control protocols
• Support discharge planning by communicating patient goals and progress to the interdisciplinary team

Qualifications

• Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) credential required
• Completion of an accredited OTA program (Associate degree typically required)
• Current state credentials per California requirements or ability to obtain required state authorization
• Basic Life Support (BLS/CPR) certification preferred or willingness to obtain
• Experience in inpatient rehabilitation, skilled nursing, or similar settings preferred
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work the posted Sunday-Saturday schedule

Education

• Associate degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) program

Knowledge & Skills

• Skilled in therapeutic techniques for ADLs, transfers, and functional task training
• Familiarity with adaptive equipment, splinting basics, and assistive device recommendations
• Proficient documentation practices and comfort with electronic medical records
• Ability to assess functional limitations and report findings clearly to the OTR and team
• Strong patient-centered approach with excellent interpersonal skills
