Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide age-specific preventive and periodontal care to infants through geriatric patients
• Perform oral examinations, dental radiographs, coronal polishing, and apply topical fluoride
• Measure and mark periodontal pockets and perform periodontal therapy as indicated
• Record vital signs such as pulse, blood pressure, and temperature for patient charts
• Manage patient scheduling and ensure smooth clinic flow
• Coordinate and lead community prevention activities including sealant clinics, Head Start clinics, and health fairs
• Maintain hygienist supplies and ensure proper sterilization of instruments
• Document clinical care accurately and collaborate with the dental team to optimize patient outcomes

Qualifications

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program (Bachelors degree preferred)
• Active Dental Hygiene License in the State of Alaska or another U.S. state (Alaska license preferred)
• Pass the National Board Examination for Dental Hygienist
• Basic Life Support (AHA) required within 45 days of start and maintained thereafter
• Clinical Competency assessment required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
• High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
• High school diploma or GED

Education

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program
• Bachelor's degree preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of infection control techniques and instrument sterilization
• Understanding of dental and periodontal disease and appropriate treatment therapies
• Proficient in dental radiography and measuring periodontal pockets
• Skilled in clinical hygiene procedures and patient education
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Good manual dexterity and ability to sit over patients for extended periods
• Accurate clinical judgment and patient-focused care
