Shift Type: Rotating 12-hour shifts (Day: 6:30 AM - 7:00 PM; Night: 6:30 PM - 7:00 AM), cyclic scheduling with every-other-weekend requirement and 1 major and 1 minor holiday coverage. Shift assignments include both day and night rotations and may vary by schedule cycle.

Hours per Week: 48

Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate, patient-centered nursing care for stepdown/PCU patients with cardiac and respiratory diagnoses
• Monitor and interpret telemetry strips and cardiac rhythms to detect changes early
• Titrate drips safely and according to protocol, including common drips like Cardizem, amiodarone and nitro
• Troubleshoot respiratory support equipment such as CPAP and collaborate with RT as needed
• Perform thorough patient assessments and create clear, accurate documentation in EPIC
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to coordinate safe discharges and admits in a fast-paced environment
• Serve as a reliable team member during unit surges, floats to ICU when appropriate, and help maintain positive morale

Qualifications

• Current RN license (eligible to practice in Iowa)
• Required certifications: BLS, ACLS and NIHSS
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience (experience in telemetry/stepdown preferred)
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips and perform cardiac monitoring
• Comfort with drip titration and managing common cardiac medications
• Driver's license required at submission; candidate must be within the 50-mile radius rule and not employed with CommonSpirit/CHI/Dignity within the past year
• Willingness to complete orientation exam and obtain a minimum score of 90% as part of onboarding
• Flexibility to float to ICU when appropriate and prior ICU float experience is a plus
• Charge nurse experience and telemetry strip interpretation are desirable

Knowledge & Skills

• Cardiac monitoring and telemetry interpretation
• Drip titration and titratable cardiac medications
• CPAP troubleshooting and basic respiratory support knowledge
• EPIC charting and accurate electronic documentation
• Patient assessment and management of heart failure, Afib and stroke patients
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced stepdown/PCU setting
