Roles & Responsibilities

• Monitor patients on telemetry and interpret dysrhythmias to keep cardiac patients safe
• Respond as a member of the Rapid Response/Code team when seconds matter
• Provide skilled Med/Surg care including IV therapy, starting IVs and central line blood draws
• Manage respiratory support including HFNC, CPAP/BiPAP, oxygen delivery and non-invasive airway care
• Administer blood products and manage insulin/heparin protocols with precision
• Perform wound care and manage Wound VAC therapy for complex wounds
• Provide colostomy and feeding tube care, plus pre/post hemodialysis support when needed
• Document thoroughly using Epic and access medications via Pyxis while communicating using SBAR
• Float between units and participate in storm/hurricane response teams as required

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years clinical nursing experience in Med/Surg/Telemetry (HARD STOP: 2 years required)
• Current BCLS certification required
• Traveler-friendly: first-time travelers accepted; locals accepted
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty
• Ability and willingness to float and participate on Storm/Hurricane teams and work holidays
• Comfortable with Epic charting and Pyxis medication systems (preferred)
• Flu vaccine required per facility policy (medical or religious exemptions allowed)

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and dysrhythmia interpretation
• Med/Surg patient care with target ratios of 1:5-6
• IV therapy, phlebotomy, PICC and central line care
• Blood product administration and IV insulin/heparin protocols
• Respiratory management: HFNC, CPAP/BiPAP, suctioning and oxygen delivery
• Wound care including Wound VAC and chest tube management
• Isolation precautions and PPE best practices
• Clinical communication using SBAR and documentation in Epic; medication workflows with Pyxis
