Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient evaluation and treatment (approximately 80% clinical time), delivering high-quality, evidence-based occupational therapy care.
• Oversee clinical operations of the Occupational Therapy Department, ensuring consistent standards of care and regulatory compliance.
• Lead clinical education and competency assessment programs for therapists, COTAs, and rehabilitation technicians.
• Supervise and mentor Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants (COTAs) and support staff, fostering professional growth and strong teamwork.
• Develop, review, and maintain OT policies and procedures addressing scope of care, evaluation/treatment standards, documentation, and discharge planning.
• Ensure accurate, timely documentation and adherence to professional and state practice act requirements.
• Collaborate on program development, quality improvement initiatives, and administrative tasks to enhance patient outcomes and service delivery.

Qualifications

• Graduate of a school of Occupational Therapy approved by the American Occupational Therapy Association — required.
• Current, active Occupational Therapy license in the State of California (Board of Medical Quality Assurance) — required.
• Experience supervising COTAs and rehabilitation technicians and providing clinical leadership.
• Familiarity with regulatory compliance, policy/procedure development, and clinical documentation standards.
• Member of the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) — preferred.
• Willingness to function in accordance with the State Practice Act and Rehabilitation Services Department recommendations.

Education

• Graduate of an accredited school of Occupational Therapy (required).
• Current California OT licensure (required).

Knowledge & Skills

• Clinical expertise in occupational therapy evaluation, treatment planning, and discharge planning.
• Strong supervisory and leadership skills, including staff development and competency assessment.
• Knowledge of state regulations, professional standards, and best practices in OT service delivery.
• Proficiency in clinical documentation and quality assurance processes.
• Ability to develop policies, procedures, and program initiatives that improve care and operational efficiency.
• Effective communication and collaboration with interdisciplinary teams and administrative leadership.
