Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert perioperative nursing care in the CVOR for open-heart cases, ensuring patient safety and optimal clinical outcomes
• Prepare the operating room and specialty instruments for cardiac (open heart) procedures with meticulous attention to sterile technique
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists, and the perioperative team to coordinate seamless patient flow
• Serve as a patient and family advocate, offering clear communication and compassionate care before, during, and after procedures
• Document perioperative care accurately and timely in the patient record to support quality metrics and continuity of care
• Respond to Open Heart call assignments and provide dependable coverage during mid-shifts as needed
• Contribute to continuous improvement and best practices through participation in the unit’s Clinical Ladder and team initiatives

Qualifications

• Current RN licensure required
• Minimum 3 years of Operating Room experience required
• Cardiac Open-Heart experience required (CVOR experience strongly preferred)
• BSN preferred — candidates who commit to obtaining a BSN within three years of hire will be considered
• Ability to work primarily day shifts with flexibility for mid shifts and on-call responsibilities

Education

• BSN preferred; willingness to obtain BSN within 3 years of hire considered
• Active RN license

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong perioperative and sterile technique knowledge specific to cardiac (open heart) cases
• Proficiency in operating room workflows and instrumentation for CVOR procedures
• Effective teamwork and communication skills in high-acuity surgical environments
• Reliable documentation and perioperative patient assessment skills
• Adaptability to shift changes and on-call rotations
