Roles & Responsibilities
- Screen, diagnose, and treat patients with speech, language, cognitive, and swallowing disorders
- Provide professional consultations and collaborate with physicians, nurses, case managers, and therapists to ensure safe discharge planning
- Perform clinical swallowing evaluations including FEES and interpret results to guide treatment plans
- Document patient progress and maintain clear, timely clinical records
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and contribute to patient-centered care planning
- Operate and maintain clinical equipment (endoscope, electrolarynx, vitalstim, augmentative communication devices) safely and effectively
- Educate patients and families about communication and swallowing strategies to support recovery and safety
Qualifications
- Current Hawaii State license as a Speech-Language Pathologist (required)
- Current ASHA certification (CCC-SLP) (required)
- BLS/HCP-level CPR certification (required)
- Completion of a FEES course — must be completed within six months of hire if not already completed
- Minimum of one (1) year experience as an SLP in an acute care setting (preferred)
- Prior FEES clinical experience and MBSImP experience (preferred)
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in speech and language assessment and treatment
- Expertise in swallowing assessment and dysphagia management
- Proficient in cognitive-communication evaluation and interventions
- Experience with FEES and familiarity with MBSImP protocols
- Strong clinical consultation and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
- Comfortable working in a fast-paced acute care environment with medically complex patients
- Competent with clinical documentation and common hospital devices and equipment
