Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide skilled post-anesthesia care for Phase I (PACU) and Phase II patients, ensuring safe recovery from anesthesia
• Perform thorough assessments and continuous monitoring of patients, intervening promptly when changes occur
• Prepare and triage pre-operative patients in PreOp, coordinating with surgical teams to optimize flow
• Administer medications and treatments per protocols and document care accurately in EPIC
• Collaborate with charge nurses, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary teams to deliver seamless perioperative care
• Educate patients and families on postoperative expectations, discharge criteria, and safety instructions
• Float between PreOp, PACU, and Phase II as needed while maintaining unit standards and patient ratios
• Participate in orientation, skills validation, and the unit’s pass/fail exam process to maintain competency

Qualifications

• Active RN license eligible for practice in Nebraska
• Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications (required at submittal)
• Minimum 2 years of recent RN experience with hands-on PACU/PreOp and Phase II experience
• Demonstrated experience with EPIC charting
• Valid driver’s license required at submittal to meet radius rule
• Comfort working in a trauma level 2 acute care environment and prepping patients for Cath Lab/IR/TEE
• Willingness to adhere to facility policies (for example: no artificial nails for direct patient care)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong perioperative and post-anesthesia assessment skills
• Familiarity with orthopedic, bariatric (laparoscopic/robotic), general surgery, urology, spine, GYN, and sports medicine cases
• Ability to prepare patients for interventional procedures (Cath Lab, IR, TEE, radiology)
• Proficient in electronic medical record documentation (EPIC)
• Skilled in medication administration, pain management, and recovery protocols
• Excellent communication, teamwork, and prioritization in a fast-paced surgical setting
