Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide age-appropriate preventive and periodontal dental hygiene care to infants through geriatric patients
• Perform periodontal assessments, periodontal therapy, coronal polishing, and topical fluoride applications
• Take and process dental radiographs and record vital signs (pulse, blood pressure, temperature)
• Deliver clear, compassionate patient education on oral hygiene, home care, and nutrition
• Manage patient scheduling to keep the clinic running smoothly
• Coordinate and conduct community prevention activities such as health fairs, sealant clinics, and Head Start clinics
• Maintain hygienist supplies and ensure proper sterilization and infection-control procedures
• Complete other clinically relevant duties as assigned to support patient care and clinic goals

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited two-year Dental Hygiene program (Bachelor’s degree preferred)
• Active Dental Hygiene license in the State of Alaska or another U.S. state (Alaska license preferred)
• Pass the National Board Examination for Dental Hygiene
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required within 45 days of start and maintained thereafter
• Clinical Competency assessment required within 3 months of hire and every 3 years
• High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
• High school diploma or GED

Education

• Graduate of a two-year Dental Hygiene Program
• Bachelor's Degree preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Proper infection-control techniques and instrument sterilization
• Principles of dental and periodontal disease and appropriate treatment therapies
• Dental radiography skills and proper use of dental instruments
• Strong clinical hygiene skills and accurate clinical judgment
• Excellent oral and written communication for patient education
• Good manual dexterity and ability to sit over patients for extended periods
• Schedule management and the ability to coordinate community outreach/prevention events
