Roles & Responsibilities

• Coordinate and deliver high-quality nursing care for patients of all ages in the Emergency Department
• Perform thorough assessments, develop and implement individualized care plans, and document patient progress
• Respond calmly and effectively to emergent situations, initiating life-saving interventions when needed
• Administer medications and therapeutics accurately and monitor patient responses
• Supervise and delegate tasks to CNAs and techs while maintaining accountability for patient care
• Communicate and collaborate with physicians and the interdisciplinary team to ensure coordinated care
• Provide patient and family education to support understanding, recovery, and discharge planning
• Participate in departmental meetings, quality initiatives, and ongoing competency validation

Qualifications

• Current full, unrestricted Registered Nursing license in Alaska or another U.S. state required
• Direct hire applicants must have applied for an Alaska nursing license before start date; agency staff must have active Alaska license
• BLS required at hire
• ACLS and PALS to be obtained within 6 months of hire
• TNCC required for Emergency Department nurses
• Clinical Competency and High Risk Competency as per employer timelines
• High school diploma or equivalent required; prior specialty experience and at least one year of clinical nursing experience preferred

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Current RN licensure (Alaska or other U.S. state) required

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient assessment across pediatric, adult, and geriatric populations
• Medication administration and monitoring for therapeutic effect and adverse reactions
• Emergency response and resuscitation skills
• Proficiency with monitoring equipment (defibrillators, EKGs, ventilators) and specialty procedures (intubation, ABG sampling, arterial line setup)
• Strong documentation and communication skills
• Leadership abilities to function as Charge RN and to support team members
• Ability to educate patients, families, and staff; sound clinical judgment and prioritization
