Roles & Responsibilities
- Coordinate and deliver comprehensive nursing care for patients of all ages in the emergency/acute care setting
- Make independent clinical decisions during your scheduled shift and maintain accountability for all actions
- Supervise, delegate to, and support CNA/Tech staff to ensure safe, high-quality patient care
- Develop, implement, and review individualized patient care plans and nursing documentation
- Respond calmly and effectively in emergency situations and provide appropriate interventions
- Maintain infection control standards and ensure compliance with hospital policies and procedures
- Communicate effectively with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, patients, and families
- Manage medication administration, stock levels, and requisitions for supplies and equipment
- Participate in unit meetings, training, and continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
- Current, full, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Alaska OR applied for Alaska license before start date (direct hire); agency staff must have active Alaska license
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (BSN, ADN, or Diploma)
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS required or to be obtained within 6 months of hire and maintained biannually
- Clinical Competency Assessment and High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and on recurring schedules
- TNCC preferred (required for ED nurses)
- Ability to work independently, make sound clinical judgments, and supervise support staff
- No prior experience strictly required, but acute care/ED/long-term care experience is preferred
Education
- Graduate of accredited school of nursing — BSN, Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN), or Nursing Diploma
- High school diploma or equivalent (as stated in job posting)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong patient assessment and care planning skills
- Medication administration and accurate nursing documentation
- Infection control practices and emergency response
- Experience with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems
- Ability to lead, delegate, and supervise clinical staff
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Familiarity with laws, regulations, and best practices in hospital and long-term care settings
