Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide focused 1:1 labor and delivery care, including fetal monitoring and labor coaching
• Deliver peri-operative and post-C-section nursing care from recovery through discharge
• Perform thorough nursing assessments and document findings using PIER/SOAPE charting
• Stabilize high-risk maternal and neonatal patients and coordinate transfers to tertiary care when needed
• Administer medications and therapeutics safely and accurately, following standards of care
• Respond calmly and effectively to emergencies, including trauma and fetal distress situations
• Supervise and delegate tasks to CNAs, LPNs, and support staff to maintain safe patient care
• Educate patients and families on postpartum care, breastfeeding, discharge plans, and follow-up

Qualifications

• Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Alaska required (or applied for prior to start for direct hire)
• Agency staff must hold an active Alaska RN license prior to start
• BLS required on hire; ACLS must be completed within first 6 months and recertified biannually
• NRP and PALS certifications required (or obtained within policy timeframes if not on hire)
• One year clinical nursing experience preferred; prior OB/Labor & Delivery experience preferred
• High school diploma or equivalent required

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency in electronic fetal monitoring using NICHD terminology
• Strong clinical judgment, triage skills, and emergency response capability
• Medication administration, infection control, and perioperative/post-surgical care
• Experience with newborn care, breastfeeding support, and well-baby checks
• Effective documentation, communication, and interdisciplinary coordination
• Familiarity with defibrillators, EKG monitoring, suction equipment, and standard OB equipment
