Roles & Responsibilities
- Perform initial triage and full assessments for patients of all ages presenting to urgent care
- Provide telephone triage, assessment, and self-care guidance or referral recommendations
- Administer medications (oral, topical, IM, SQ, intradermal, IV push and infusion) and initiate/maintain IV therapy
- Document assessments, interventions, patient education, and follow-up in the EMR accurately and promptly
- Coordinate patient referrals and track outcomes, communicating status to providers and care teams
- Maintain infection control practices and a safe, well-stocked clinical environment
- Serve as a collaborative team member—supporting providers, LPNs, clinical assistants, and case managers
- Participate in department improvement efforts and required competency maintenance
Qualifications
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and eligible to take the NCLEX
- Current full, unrestricted Registered Nurse license in Alaska or other U.S. state required (Direct hire must have applied for Alaska license before start; agency staff must have active Alaska license)
- Minimum 2 years of general nursing experience, with at least 1 year in ambulatory/urgent care
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred
- Clinical Competency required within 3 months of hire and every three years
- High Risk Competency required within 3 months of hire and annually
- Ability to perform physical demands of the role (frequent standing/walking; ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs)
Education
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing (qualified to take NCLEX)
- High school diploma or equivalent required
Knowledge & Skills
- Patient assessment and triage for urgent care presentations
- IV therapy initiation, maintenance, and secondary IV medication administration
- Medication administration across multiple routes (including IV push/infusion)
- Accurate clinical documentation and EMR charting
- Infection control and clinic safety protocols
- Prioritization, multitasking, and time management in a fast-paced clinic
- Strong communication, patient education, and customer service skills
- Critical thinking and the ability to work with standing orders
