Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare sterile fields and ensure all instrumentation is accounted for and functioning
• Assist CVOR teams during open-heart and cardiovascular procedures with precision and calm
• Float to and assist in General Surgery when CVOR volumes are low to support team needs
• Maintain central processing best practices and ensure surgical instruments are properly handled
• Participate reliably in call rotation, responding promptly for weekend and potential holiday coverage
• Communicate clearly with surgeons, nurses, and techs to promote patient safety and efficient workflow
• Document procedures and instrument counts accurately to support quality and compliance

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program
• BLS certification required
• CST preferred but not required
• Minimum of 2 years of current or very recent Open-Heart (CVOR) experience
• Strong critical thinking and ability to adapt in high-acuity surgical environments
• Ability and willingness to float to General Surgery as needed
• Available for 2-3 days of call per week including weekend coverage

Education

• Graduate of an accredited Surgical Technology program

Knowledge & Skills

• Sterile technique and operating room protocol
• Central processing and instrument reprocessing knowledge
• Cardiovascular and open-heart instrumentation familiarity
• Strong critical thinking and situational awareness
• Ability to prioritize and multitask during complex procedures
• Excellent teamwork and communication skills in perioperative settings
