Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on therapeutic care under the supervision of licensed PTs to help patients regain mobility and independence
- Implement treatment plans, assist with therapeutic exercises, modalities, and safe patient transfers
- Monitor patient progress, document interventions accurately in the medical record, and communicate changes with the care team
- Educate patients and families on home exercise programs and safety strategies to support long-term recovery
- Collaborate with nurses, physicians, and rehab staff to coordinate high-quality, patient-centered care
- Maintain equipment, ensure infection-control standards, and contribute to a safe clinical environment
Qualifications
- Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) in Massachusetts or eligible to obtain state license
- Graduate of an accredited PTA program (Associate degree or equivalent)
- Current CPR/BLS certification (or willing to obtain)
- Comfortable working with adult inpatient populations and medically complex patients
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively on a care team
Education
- Associate Degree in Physical Therapy Assistant (or completion of accredited PTA program)
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in therapeutic exercise, gait training, transfers, and basic modalities
- Proficient with documenting in electronic medical records and following care plans
- Knowledge of safety principles for patient handling and mobility
- Good clinical judgment, organization, and time-management
- Compassionate patient education and motivational coaching
- Teamwork and clear interdisciplinary communication
