Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver safe, compassionate nursing care to step-down and med-surg patients with confidence
- Perform trach care and manage stable ventilated patients as part of the unit’s scope
- Monitor and manage chest tubes, cardiac drips, and other advanced equipment
- Assess patient condition, implement nursing interventions, and evaluate responses
- Document care accurately and promptly in Cerner to ensure excellent continuity
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to create patient-focused care plans
- Provide patient and family education about procedures, recovery, and self-care
- Float to other med-surg and progressive care areas as needed with flexibility and professionalism
Qualifications
- Active RN license for North Carolina (or compact state privileges as applicable)
- Minimum 2 years of clinical nursing experience
- Hands-on experience caring for patients with tracheostomies
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications
- Comfortable with chest tube care, wound dressing changes, and cardiac drip management
- Experience with Cerner EMR is preferred
- Ability to work weekends and participate in on-call schedules when required
- Strong clinical judgment, flexibility, and teamwork mindset
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required; BSN preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Trach care and basic ventilator/stable vent management
- Chest tube management and wound care skills
- Cardiac drip monitoring and titration basics
- Proficiency or familiarity with Cerner electronic medical record
- Safe patient handling (lifts) and mobility assistance
- Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills
- Time management and prioritization in a fast-paced unit
