Roles & Responsibilities
- Evaluate residents' speech, language, voice, fluency and swallowing function with evidence-based assessments
- Develop and implement individualized treatment plans that focus on functional outcomes and quality of life
- Collaborate with nursing and rehab team members to coordinate care and support safe, effective discharge planning
- Document progress clearly and timely in the facility EHR and communicate results to families and caregivers
- Provide training and education to staff and family members to reinforce carryover of therapeutic strategies
- Monitor and update treatment goals based on resident progress and changing needs
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology required
- Active California Speech-Language Pathology license required
- ASHA CCC-SLP preferred
- Minimum clinical experience in adult/geriatric or skilled nursing settings preferred
- Strong documentation and time-management skills
- Current basic life support (BLS) or CPR certification preferred or obtained promptly
Education
- Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology
Knowledge & Skills
- Skilled in dysphagia assessment and intervention strategies
- Experience with cognitive-communication disorder treatment
- Strong clinical reasoning and ability to set measurable functional goals
- Comfortable using electronic health records for documentation
- Excellent interdisciplinary communication and patient-family education skills
- Familiarity with AAC strategies and adaptive communication techniques
