Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care for step-down and med-surg patients, including trach care and chest tube management
- Assess patient condition, implement nursing interventions, and evaluate outcomes to keep patients safe and progressing
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to coordinate care and optimize recovery
- Administer and titrate cardiac drips and manage stable vented patients according to unit protocols
- Document patient care accurately in Cerner and maintain clear communication with families and providers
- Participate in unit-based initiatives and floating assignments to support staffing needs
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in North Carolina (required)
- Minimum 2 years nursing experience (required)
- Experience caring for patients with tracheostomies (required)
- ACLS and BLS certifications (required)
- Previous experience with Cerner EMR (preferred)
- Flexibility to work day or night shifts and float to other med-surg/progressive care units
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Trach care, suctioning, and trach emergency management
- Chest tube care and dressing changes
- Care of stable ventilated patients and management of cardiac drips
- Strong clinical assessment and prioritization skills in a step-down environment
- Proficiency with Cerner or similar EMR systems
- Teamwork, adaptability, and the ability to work in a dynamic clinical unit
