Roles & Responsibilities

Screen, diagnose, and treat patients with disorders of speech, language, cognition, and swallowing
Provide professional consultations to the interdisciplinary care team to ensure safe discharge planning
Conduct FEES and other instrumental assessments as appropriate and integrate findings into treatment plans
Deliver individualized swallowing and cognitive rehabilitation interventions to maximize patient function
Operate and maintain clinical equipment such as endoscopes, VitalStim, electrolarynx, augmentative communication devices, and standard monitoring tools
Document clinical findings, progress, and discharge recommendations clearly and promptly
Collaborate with physicians, nurses, social workers, and case managers to coordinate patient-centered care

Qualifications

Current Hawaii State license as a Speech Language Pathologist
Current American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) certification
Current CPR certification at BLS/HCP level
Completion of a FEES course, or willingness to complete within six months of hire
Minimum of one year of experience as an SLP in an acute care setting preferred
Prior FEES clinical experience and MBS ImP preferred

Knowledge & Skills

Skilled in swallowing assessment and dysphagia treatment
Proficient in speech, language, and cognitive evaluation and treatment
Experience with FEES and other instrumental swallowing assessments
Familiarity with MBS ImP methodology
Comfortable using augmentative communication equipment, VitalStim, electrolarynx, and endoscope
Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced acute care team environment
