Roles & Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain the cath lab environment and equipment, ensuring sterile technique and readiness for procedures
- Assist cardiologists during diagnostic and interventional procedures with clinical judgment and steady hands
- Monitor patient hemodynamics and cardiac rhythms closely, responding quickly to changes and escalating when needed
- Administer medications and IV therapies per protocol and under physician direction, utilizing your ACLS and BLS training
- Perform thorough pre- and post-procedure assessments and deliver compassionate patient education and recovery care
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams — radiology, anesthesia, techs and support staff — to ensure seamless patient flow
- Document procedures, interventions, and patient responses accurately and promptly in the medical record
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and maintain competency through required specialty testing
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse licensure (able to verify via Nursys and license/certificate verification)
- Cath lab experience or strong cardiac telemetry background preferred
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; DCI/BVP as required by facility
- Completion of specialty competency screenings (rhythm interpretation, basic pharmacology, cath lab skills)
- Ability to pass required health screenings (drug screen, TB test, immunizations, fit test, etc.)
- Strong teamwork skills, excellent communication, and the ability to stay calm in high-acuity situations
Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ADN or BSN). BSN preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Rhythm interpretation and basic pharmacology knowledge
- Familiarity with cath lab equipment, sterile technique, and radiation safety practices
- Proficiency in hemodynamic monitoring and interpreting invasive pressures
- Skilled in IV/medication administration and emergency response protocols
- Accurate clinical documentation and use of electronic medical records
- Patient-centered communication and education skills
