Roles & Responsibilities

• Collect patient specimens accurately and courteously, ensuring specimen integrity and correct labeling
• Use the Laboratory Information System (LIS) to receive patients, enter orders, and document results
• Perform automated and manual testing across hematology, urinalysis, chemistry, blood bank and/or microbiology
• Analyze and validate test results prior to release, ensuring accuracy and clinical usefulness
• Ensure timely turnaround and promptly communicate critical results to clinical teams
• Perform quality control, proficiency testing, and document outcomes according to policy
• Carry out preventative maintenance, calibration and basic troubleshooting on lab instruments
• Participate in method and instrument evaluations and support implementation of new assays
• Teach and train new staff and students, helping build a strong, competent lab team
• Maintain and expand competency in current procedures and newly implemented methods

Qualifications

• Current MLT/MLS Generalist Certification or Specialty Certification (BB, C, H, or M) — required
• Qualified to perform high complexity testing per CLIA 493.1489 standards
• Hands-on experience in Hematology and Blood Bank — required
• Experience with automated and manual testing methods and instrument maintenance
• Comfortable using a Laboratory Information System (LIS) and documenting quality control activities
• Strong attention to detail, good communication skills when interacting with nurses and physicians
• Able to participate in training and competency activities

Education

• MLT/MLS Generalist Certification or Specialty Certification (BB, C, H, M) — required

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficiency in hematology, blood bank, chemistry, urinalysis and/or microbiology testing
• Understanding of CLIA high complexity testing requirements and quality systems
• Experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) for order entry and results reporting
• Skill in performing quality control, proficiency testing, and interpreting QC trends
• Instrument maintenance, calibration and basic troubleshooting skills
• Ability to analyze results for validity and resolve discrepancies before release
