Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform thorough patient assessments and collect physiologic, psychosocial, and cognitive data
• Implement individualized care plans using the nursing process and evidence-based practices
• Provide patient and family teaching to support recovery and safe transitions
• Document accurately in the EMR and/or paper records in compliance with policy and regulations
• Delegate, coordinate and supervise care provided by nurses and non-nurse staff
• Serve as charge nurse when assigned: manage assignments, coordinate admissions/discharges/transfers, and support staff problem-solving
• Identify safety and infection control risks and take action to promote a safe care environment
• Demonstrate critical thinking and priority setting to manage acutely ill patients effectively

Qualifications

• Current Washington State RN license required
• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
• BLS (Healthcare Provider/AHA) required within 30 days of hire
• PEARS to be obtained within 12 months of hire (and renewed per policy)
• Experience as an acute care RN preferred; minimum of 1 year RN experience preferred for specialty areas
• Ability to perform physical demands of the role (standing/walking for long periods, safe patient handling)
• Comfort leading a team, delegating appropriately, and serving in a charge nurse capacity when needed

Education

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing (Associate degree, Diploma, or BSN)

Knowledge & Skills

• Patient assessment and nursing process expertise
• Care planning, implementation and evaluation across the adult lifespan
• Strong documentation skills in Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems
• Delegation, supervision and team coordination
• Infection control, safety practices and emergency response
• Critical thinking, priority setting and crisis management
• Excellent communication and patient/family education skills
