Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide attentive, evidence-based nursing care to newborns in the nursery and NICU-adjacent setting
• Perform thorough assessments, monitor vital signs, and promptly escalate changes in condition
• Administer medications and treatments safely according to hospital policy
• Collaborate with neonatologists, pediatricians, and the care team to plan and document patient care
• Support families with education, reassurance, and discharge planning for healthy newborns
• Maintain accurate, timely charting and communicate clearly across shifts for continuity of care
• Adhere to infection control and safety protocols to protect fragile infants and families

Qualifications

• Current RN license (Louisiana or compact RN allowed — verify with recruiter)
• NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification — required
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) — required
• BLS (Basic Life Support) — required
• Comfortable and experienced in nursery and/or NICU workflows
• Ability to start promptly (ASAP availability preferred)
• Clear background check and up-to-date immunizations as required by facility

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong neonatal assessment and monitoring skills
• Proficiency with unit documentation and electronic health records
• Excellent communication and family-centered care abilities
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
• Calm decision-making under pressure and solid critical thinking
• Familiarity with neonatal equipment and safe medication administration for newborns
