Roles & Responsibilities

• Lead infection prevention efforts across the hospital, with a focus on the operating room and sterile processing
• Monitor, evaluate, and improve infection control practices to protect patients and staff
• Conduct surveillance, data collection, and reporting for hospital-acquired infections
• Develop and update policies, protocols, and educational materials to meet regulatory standards
• Provide hands-on education and coaching to OR, sterile processing, and unit staff
• Partner with multidisciplinary teams to investigate and resolve infection-related incidents
• Support readiness for inspections and ensure compliance with applicable guidelines and standards

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license — ability to obtain Hawaii licensure required
• Demonstrated experience in infection control within a community hospital setting
• Strong background working with operating room and sterile processing practices
• Certification in Infection Control (CIC) preferred but not required
• Excellent communication, teaching, and collaboration skills
• Comfortable with surveillance/reporting tools and basic data interpretation

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing required; BSN preferred
• Relevant infection prevention training or certification is a plus

Knowledge & Skills

• In-depth knowledge of infection prevention principles and best practices
• Familiarity with OR workflows and sterile processing procedures
• Understanding of regulatory requirements and accreditation standards
• Ability to design and deliver effective staff education and competency assessments
• Comfort with surveillance methodologies, data collection, and trend analysis
• Strong problem-solving and incident investigation skills
