Roles & Responsibilities
- Administer and monitor infusions including chemotherapy, antibiotics, blood, iron, and fluids with meticulous attention to safety
- Perform IV insertion and maintain vascular access to ensure effective therapy delivery
- Assess patients before, during, and after treatments and intervene promptly when needed
- Provide injections and other outpatient infusion procedures following best practices
- Document care accurately and efficiently in EPIC to maintain continuity and quality of care
- Educate patients and families about therapies, side effect management, and aftercare
- Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to support a smooth, patient-centered infusion experience
- Maintain compliance with unit policies (including infection control and fingernail/artificial nail policy) to ensure patient safety
Qualifications
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license appropriate for practice in Nebraska
- Minimum 2 years of relevant nursing experience (infusion/IV experience highly preferred)
- BLS (AHA) required
- ONS/ONCC certification required; chemotherapy certification highly preferred
- Valid driver’s license required at time of submittal (used to confirm radius eligibility)
- Willingness and ability to pass an open-book skills exam during orientation with a 90% score (pass/fail requirement)
- Ability to comply with employer radius rule (within 50 miles) and not be currently employed FT/PT/PRN with CommonSpirit/CHI/Dignity facilities
- Adherence to facility appearance policies (artificial nails prohibited in patient care areas)
Education
- Active RN license; BSN preferred but not required
Knowledge & Skills
- Proficient in infusion therapy and IV care, including blood transfusion and chemotherapy administration
- Comfortable with EPIC charting and accurate electronic documentation
- Strong patient assessment skills and ability to recognize/adapt to changing clinical conditions
- Skilled in venipuncture and maintaining IV access
- Knowledge of chemotherapy safety, handling, and adverse effect management
- Excellent communication, patient education, and teamwork skills
- Strong time management and prioritization in a busy outpatient infusion setting
