Roles & Responsibilities

• Coordinate and deliver safe, evidence-based nursing care for patients of all ages across Med/Surg, ED and ICU
• Perform thorough nursing assessments, develop individualized care plans, and document findings clearly
• Administer medications and therapies accurately, monitoring for effects and side effects
• Respond calmly and effectively in emergent situations and initiate appropriate life-saving interventions
• Delegate and supervise CNA/Tech staff to ensure high-quality patient support and safety
• Educate patients and families about conditions, treatments and discharge plans to promote recovery
• Collaborate with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to coordinate seamless patient care
• Participate in unit meetings, competency checks and continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

• Active, valid, current and unrestricted RN license in the State of Alaska required at time of submission
• BLS, ACLS and PALS required on hire
• TNCC/ATCN and NRP certifications preferred depending on specialty area (must obtain within first 6 months if applicable)
• One year of clinical nursing experience preferred
• Ability and willingness to float between Med/Surg, ED and ICU
• Willingness to work both day and night shifts and adjust to unit needs
• Must obtain/maintain seasonal flu vaccine as required
• Ability to pass fingerprint/background processing prior to start

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Education sufficient to obtain a valid RN license in Alaska (e.g., ADN or BSN as applicable)

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong nursing assessment and clinical decision-making using the nursing process
• Proficient documentation and charting consistent with standards of care
• Medication administration and knowledge of pharmacology relevant to the area
• Infection control practices and safe patient handling
• Competence with basic and specialty medical equipment including monitors and defibrillators
• Effective oral and written communication and the ability to teach patients and families
• Calm, decisive action in emergencies and good delegation/leadership skills on shift
