Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide primary nursing care to patients in the Progressive Care Unit, ensuring safety and comfort
• Monitor telemetry and perform telemetry strip reading to detect cardiac changes promptly
• Perform fingerstick blood sugars and manage glucose-related care
• Operate and manage continuous cardiac monitoring and BIPAP as needed
• Administer medications using Pyxis and document care in Meditech accurately and timely
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists and interdisciplinary team members to develop patient-centered plans
• Float to other acute units as needed including Medical, Surgical/Peds, ICU and ER to support patient needs
• Adhere to unit policies, infection control practices and maintain professional standards in scrubs

Qualifications

• Current Hawaii RN license required by start of assignment (applicants must apply if not yet licensed)
• Minimum 1 year of hospital acute care experience within the last year
• Progressive Care and telemetry experience preferred
• ACLS preferred; current PALS preferred; NIHSS certification preferred
• Comfortable with step-down ICU level patients and a 1:4 or 1:3 staffing ratio
• Willingness to float to other acute departments and work varied shifts

Knowledge & Skills

• Telemetry monitoring and telemetry strip interpretation
• Continuous cardiac monitoring and cardiac rhythm recognition
• Meditech electronic charting
• Pyxis medication system experience
• BIPAP management and familiarity with respiratory support
• Primary nursing care in acute and progressive care settings
• Ability to perform fingerstick blood sugars and respond to results
