Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality respiratory care to patients across the acute care setting
• Manage and troubleshoot mechanical ventilators and advanced airway devices
• Perform and interpret arterial blood gases and adjust therapies accordingly
• Deliver aerosolized medication therapy, oxygen therapy, and non-invasive ventilation
• Respond rapidly to respiratory emergencies and participate in codes as needed
• Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and interdisciplinary teams to develop care plans
• Educate patients and families on respiratory disease management and discharge needs
• Document treatments, patient responses, and equipment changes accurately in the EHR

Qualifications

• Active Respiratory Therapist credential (RRT or CRT) — or eligible to obtain prior to start
• Valid Vermont Respiratory Care license or ability to obtain licensure in VT
• Current BLS required; ACLS strongly preferred
• Minimum acute care respiratory therapy experience (1+ year preferred)
• Comfortable with ventilator management, ABG interpretation, and emergency response
• Excellent communication skills and the ability to work in a fast-paced team environment

Education

• Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy or equivalent from an accredited program
• Graduation from an accredited respiratory care program; Bachelor’s degree is a plus

Knowledge & Skills

• Ventilator management and troubleshooting (invasive and non-invasive)
• Arterial blood gas (ABG) analysis and respiratory assessment
• Airway management, suctioning, and advanced respiratory interventions
• Familiarity with common hospital EHRs and accurate clinical documentation
• Strong critical thinking, prioritization, and crisis management skills
• Team collaboration, patient education, and compassionate bedside care
