Shift Type: Monday-Friday, 6:45 AM - 3:15 PM (Day shift) with on-call responsibilities: weeknight call 3-4 times/week (3:15 PM - 6:45 AM) and weekend call every 2-3 weeks (Fri 3:15 PM - Mon 6:45 AM); rotating holidays; start-at-6:00 AM on open-heart case prep days

Roles & Responsibilities

• First scrub and assist on cardiovascular procedures including open heart (CABG, valve work) to ensure safe, efficient cases
• Prepare and set up CVOR suites and specialty equipment such as ECMO, Impella, ION robotic systems and Stryker towers
• Perform thorough case prep and instrument management for thoracic, vascular and general OR cases
• Cross-train into general OR and ortho as volumes shift to maintain flexible staffing
• Float to the floor as a 1:1 sitter when needed to support patient care and departmental staffing
• Follow charge nurse and CV team lead direction to maintain smooth shift operations and patient safety
• Participate in unit orientation, buddy shifts, and ongoing professional development

Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA OR NCCT required
• BLS certification required
• ND UAP credential as listed in job requirements
• Minimum 2 years CVOR experience with open heart cases (CABG, valve) and ability to first scrub
• Willingness to cross-train into general OR and ortho specialties and to float to floor as a 1:1 sitter
• Ability to respond to on-call within 15 minutes and to work rotating holidays and weekend call rotations
• Comfortable with EPIC charting and acute care documentation

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or NCCT required
• BLS required

Knowledge & Skills

• Hands-on CVOR knowledge: CABG, valve surgery, thoracotomy, VATS, AAA and carotid procedures
• Experience with specialty equipment: ECMO, Impella 5.5, ION robotic systems, Stryker towers
• Strong case prep, instrument handling, and first-scrub technique
• Ability to adapt quickly across specialties and maintain composure under call conditions
• Team-oriented communication, collaboration with surgeons, anesthesiology and nursing leads
• Familiarity with acute care workflows and EPIC electronic charting
