Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality postoperative and med/surg nursing care for a variety of surgical cases, including robotic and open procedures
• Perform IV insertions and manage vascular access including PICC and central lines with confidence
• Manage patient assignments (up to 8 patients at peak) while maintaining safety and clinical judgment
• Collaborate with care teams during rounds to support discharge planning and smooth transitions
• Execute bedside shift reports and communicate clear, concise handoffs to the next team
• Float to the sister Ortho unit as needed while delivering consistent patient-centered care

Qualifications

• Previous travel nurse experience (required) with recent acute care Med/Surg assignments — most recent 3 assignments should be acute care MS in medium to large organizations
• Comfortable managing up to 8 patients when necessary; typical night ratio 1:6 (may go to 1:8)
• Proven skill in IV insertion and vascular device access/care (PICC/central line management)
• Experience with postoperative surgical care and common meds used on the unit (IV antibiotics, pain control meds, antiemetics, heparin/Lovenox)
• Willingness and ability to float between Med/Surg and Ortho units
• Night shift experience and stamina for 12-hour NOC shifts

Knowledge & Skills

• Med/Surg nursing and acute care clinical judgment
• Postoperative care for surgical specialties (robotic procedures, hysterectomy, prostatectomy, colon resection, bariatric, etc.)
• IV insertion, Alaris IV pump familiarity, CADD PCA, Bard mini-infusers
• PICC/central line care and vascular device access
• Medication administration for IV antibiotics, pain control, antiemetics, heparin/Lovenox
• Experience with Pyxis, ceiling/EVA lifts, and wound VAC management
• Effective bedside shift reporting and interdisciplinary teamwork
• Ability to prioritize and manage multiple patients safely during night shifts
