Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess and monitor patients on a 55-bed MedSurg/Telemetry ortho unit, prioritizing safety and compassion
• Administer medications and perform IV titration for drips such as heparin, lidocaine, and ketamine
• Monitor telemetry and maintain tele-awareness to identify and escalate changes in patient condition
• Manage PCA pumps and titratable/set-rate drips while following unit protocols
• Perform hourly rounding and timely responses to patient needs to improve outcomes and satisfaction
• Coordinate admissions, discharges and daily patient flow to keep the unit running smoothly
• Collaborate with charge nurses, interdisciplinary teams, and patient care techs to deliver seamless care
• Provide culturally competent care to a diverse patient population, including Spanish, Karen and Burmese speakers
• Use mechanical lifts safely and coach/unit staff on proper patient handling when needed

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in good standing
• BLS certification required at time of submittal
• Valid driver's license required at submittal (used to validate 50-mile radius rule)
• Telemetry and MedSurg experience with comfort reading/awareness of tele monitoring
• Demonstrated IV titration experience (heparin, lidocaine, ketamine) and PCA pump familiarity
• Experience working in 12-hour shift formats and managing 1:5-6 nurse:patient ratios
• Ability to supervise and collaborate with patient care technicians and charge nurses
• Must achieve 90% on orientation pass/fail exam (open book) or contract will be terminated
• Candidates may not be full-time, part-time, or PRN with any facility associated with CommonSpirit (including CHI or Dignity)

• Clinical assessment and critical thinking for MedSurg and ortho diagnoses
• Telemetry monitoring awareness and cardiac rhythm recognition
• IV therapy and drip titration protocols
• PCA pump setup and troubleshooting
• Safe patient handling with mechanical lifts
• Strong communication and teamwork skills with charge nurse collaboration
• Hourly rounding best practices to improve patient experience
• Cultural competence and ability to support Spanish, Karen, Burmese patients
• Time management and prioritization for high-admission/discharge days
• Accurate documentation and adherence to infection control standards
