Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality medical-surgical and orthopedic nursing care to adult patients using evidence-based practices
• Monitor telemetry and cardiac rhythms accurately and act promptly on changes in condition
• Administer medications safely, including heparin titration per protocol, and manage IV therapies
• Perform comprehensive patient assessments and document findings clearly and timely
• Collaborate with respiratory therapy, charge nurses, and patient care techs to ensure coordinated care
• Educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatments, discharge plans, and safe home care
• Support unit staffing ratios (typical RN:patient 1:5-6) and assist with unit flow and assignments
• Adhere to facility policies including infection control, dress code (navy scrubs) and artificial nail prohibition

Qualifications

• Current and active RN license in the state of practice (required)
• BLS certification (required)
• Valid driver’s license at time of submittal (used to confirm radius eligibility)
• Experience in medical-surgical nursing and telemetry monitoring preferred
• Comfort with orthopedic patients and IV therapy; heparin titration experience a plus
• Willingness to float to PCU or Burn unit as needed
• Ability to complete orientation (classroom + 2 clinical shifts) and pass the open-book skills exam with a 90% score (pass/fail requirement)
• Candidates must NOT be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any CommonSpirit-affiliated facility (including CHI and/or Dignity)
• RTO (requested time off) limited to 7 days or less per 13-week contract and must be submitted upfront

• Medical-surgical nursing best practices
• Telemetry monitoring and centralized tele familiarity
• Orthopedic nursing principles and mobility/safety practices
• Medication administration and titratable drip knowledge (heparin)
• IV therapy skills and site management
• Patient assessment and clinical documentation
• Team-based communication with RNs, RTs, charge nurses and PCTs
• Ability to work in a fast-paced unit with 42 beds and typical ratios of 1:5-6
