Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide expert perioperative nursing care for open heart/cardiac surgical patients in a busy OR environment
• Prepare and maintain a sterile field and surgical supplies for cardiac cases
• Collaborate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, perfusionists and the perioperative team to ensure safe, efficient surgeries
• Document patient care accurately and promptly in EPIC
• Participate in on-call coverage (one night every two weeks) and scheduled weekend rotation
• Perform preoperative assessments and postoperative handoffs to ensure continuity of care
• Maintain competency through required skills checks and specialty exams

Qualifications

• Current RN license (Nursys verification expected)
• Minimum 2 years of OR nursing experience in a busy operating room
• Hands-on experience with open heart/cardiac surgery cases
• EPIC documentation experience required
• BLS and ACLS required; PALS, NIHSS and DCI/BVP highly desirable
• Successful completion of required screenings: drug screen, TB testing, fit test and immunizations (COVID-19, MMR, Hep B, Influenza, Varicella, Tdap)
• Ability to work scheduled day shifts and participate in on-call and occasional weekend coverage

Knowledge & Skills

• Perioperative nursing principles and sterile technique
• Cardiac surgery workflow and instrumentation familiarity
• EPIC proficiency for perioperative documentation
• Rhythm interpretation and basic pharmacology knowledge
• Strong communication and teamwork in high-acuity OR settings
• Excellent time management and adaptability during variable case lengths
