Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate direct patient care on a behavioral health/psych unit, ensuring safety and dignity
• Observe, document, and report changes in patient behavior and condition to the care team
• Serve as a sitter when assigned, maintaining constant observation and de-escalation techniques
• Assist with activities of daily living (bathing, feeding, mobility) with respect and sensitivity
• Support therapeutic activities and maintain a calm, structured environment for patients
• Communicate clearly and collaboratively with nurses, providers, and family members to support care plans

Qualifications

• Active CNA certification in the practicing state (required)
• Minimum of 1 year of experience preferred on a behavioral health or psych unit
• Comfortable and experienced working as a sitter when needed
• Basic life support (BLS) certification preferred or willing to obtain
• Strong observational and documentation skills, with a patient-first attitude
• Ability to work day or night shifts and adapt to rotating schedules

Education

• CNA certification (state-certified nursing assistant) required
• High school diploma or GED preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Familiarity with behavioral health interventions and de-escalation techniques
• Basic clinical skills: vital signs, ADL assistance, patient hygiene
• Good charting and documentation practices
• Effective communication and teamwork in a fast-paced clinical setting
• Cultural sensitivity and respect for diverse patient populations
