Roles & Responsibilities

• Prepare and maintain the sterile field and surgical instruments for pediatric surgical procedures
• Assist surgeons and the perioperative team by passing instruments and anticipating procedural needs
• Perform instrument counts and documentation to ensure patient safety and compliance
• Set up operating rooms according to procedure specifications and maintain equipment functionality
• Participate in orientation and training to become proficient with facility protocols and pediatric care standards
• Communicate clearly with nursing staff, anesthesia, and surgical teams to support smooth case flow
• Adhere to infection control, safety policies, and strict sterile technique at all times

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited surgical technology program or equivalent training
• Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) preferred; willing to support certification if needed
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required or obtained shortly after hire
• Prior experience in an operating room environment preferred, especially with pediatric cases
• Ability to pass facility background checks and meet immunization requirements
• Strong teamwork, communication skills, and attention to sterile technique and detail

Education

• Surgical Technology program graduate or equivalent diploma/certificate
• High school diploma or GED required

Knowledge & Skills

• Familiarity with surgical instrumentation and sterile procedures
• Knowledge of operating room protocols and patient safety best practices
• Ability to anticipate surgeon needs and manage instrument flow
• Good documentation skills for counts and case records
• Comfort working in a fast-paced perioperative environment with pediatric patients
