Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform accurate venipuncture and capillary blood draws while maintaining patient comfort
• Label and process specimens promptly and correctly to ensure sample integrity
• Verify patient identity and match samples to requisitions with precision
• Maintain clean, organized work areas and adhere to infection control protocols
• Document procedures and results clearly in the medical record or LIS
• Communicate professionally with patients and clinical staff, especially in a correctional healthcare environment

Qualifications

• Current phlebotomy certification or completion of an accredited phlebotomy program
• Preferred: 1+ year of phlebotomy experience in a clinical or correctional setting
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred
• Ability to pass background checks, TB screening, and any required facility clearances
• Strong patient ID and specimen handling skills and attention to detail
• Comfort working in a secure correctional facility and following facility-specific policies

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Phlebotomy certificate from an accredited program required

Knowledge & Skills

• Proficient venipuncture and skin puncture technique
• Knowledge of specimen handling, labeling, and transport requirements
• Familiarity with infection control and universal precautions
• Good communication and de-escalation skills in a diverse patient population
• Basic computer skills for documentation and lab information systems
