Roles & Responsibilities
- Deliver compassionate, skilled occupational therapy assistance to help patients regain independence
- Support the development and implementation of individualized treatment plans under OTR supervision
- Perform therapeutic activities and adaptive training to improve daily living skills
- Accurately document patient progress, outcomes, and care notes in a timely manner
- Collaborate with nurses, therapists, and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient care
- Educate patients and families on home programs, equipment use, and safety strategies
- Maintain a safe, clean environment and ensure proper use and maintenance of therapy equipment
Qualifications
- Current COTA credential (Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant) required
- Agencies must have or be able to register with NM caregivers account as noted in order requirements
- Comfortable working the assigned schedule, including weekends
- Relevant state certification/registration as required by New Mexico employers
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred
Education
- Associate degree or completion of an accredited COTA program
- COTA certification
Knowledge & Skills
- Hands-on experience with therapeutic activities and adaptive equipment
- Strong patient assessment and documentation skills
- Clear verbal and written communication with patients, families, and team members
- Ability to follow care plans and adapt interventions to meet patient needs
- Time management, organization, and a collaborative mindset
