Roles & Responsibilities

• Deliver compassionate, skilled occupational therapy assistance to help patients regain independence
• Support the development and implementation of individualized treatment plans under OTR supervision
• Perform therapeutic activities and adaptive training to improve daily living skills
• Accurately document patient progress, outcomes, and care notes in a timely manner
• Collaborate with nurses, therapists, and the interdisciplinary team to coordinate patient care
• Educate patients and families on home programs, equipment use, and safety strategies
• Maintain a safe, clean environment and ensure proper use and maintenance of therapy equipment

Qualifications

• Current COTA credential (Certified Occupational Therapist Assistant) required
• Agencies must have or be able to register with NM caregivers account as noted in order requirements
• Comfortable working the assigned schedule, including weekends
• Relevant state certification/registration as required by New Mexico employers
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification preferred

Education

• Associate degree or completion of an accredited COTA program
• COTA certification

Knowledge & Skills

• Hands-on experience with therapeutic activities and adaptive equipment
• Strong patient assessment and documentation skills
• Clear verbal and written communication with patients, families, and team members
• Ability to follow care plans and adapt interventions to meet patient needs
• Time management, organization, and a collaborative mindset
