Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate direct care to patients in a mental health unit, assisting with activities of daily living
• Monitor and report changes in behavior and physical status to the nursing team promptly
• Assist with mobility, hygiene, feeding and other daily needs while promoting patient dignity
• Document care accurately and clearly in patient records
• Collaborate with nurses, therapists and correctional staff to support individualized care plans
• Follow facility safety and security protocols at PBSP - Pelican Bay State Prison

Qualifications

• Active Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification required (California)
• Experience in mental health or behavioral health settings preferred
• Comfort working in a correctional facility environment and willingness to complete facility-required orientation
• Strong communication skills and a team-oriented attitude
• Ability to pass facility onboarding requirements (background checks/fingerprinting as required by the employer)

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• CNA certification required

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of activities of daily living (ADLs) assistance and basic patient care
• Familiarity with infection control and safety procedures
• Ability to observe, document and report clinical changes
• De-escalation and behavior management techniques suitable for mental health settings
• Reliable time management and professional communication with multidisciplinary teams
