Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide hands-on therapeutic intervention under the direct supervision of a registered Occupational Therapist
- Respond promptly to requests for service and coordinate care within the rehab team
- Assist with data collection and evaluation to support patient progress
- Develop and implement treatment goals and plans in collaboration with an OTR
- Adapt activities, tools, and environments to meet individual patient needs and cultural context
- Maintain accurate clinical documentation and records required by the facility and payers
- Perform safe patient transfers and manual handling (able to lift/control up to 50 pounds)
- Participate in continuous quality improvement, program evaluation, and policy development
- Provide in-service education and supervise volunteers, COTAs, and OTA students under OTR direction
- Administer standardized tests and perform specialized interventions after demonstrated competency
Qualifications
- Graduated from an approved and accredited occupational therapy assistant program
- Current NBCOT certification (National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy)
- State licensure for Occupational Therapy Assistant in Louisiana (or eligible to obtain)
- Ability to safely lift and control 50 pounds and perform minimal assist transfers
- Comfort working under the supervision of an OTR and following facility policies
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, and the care team
Education
- Graduation from an approved and accredited occupational therapy assistant program
Knowledge & Skills
- Therapeutic intervention and intervention planning
- Treatment goal development and implementation under OTR supervision
- Clinical documentation and maintaining treatment area/equipment
- Patient transfers and safe manual handling techniques
- Administering standardized tests after competency is established
- Program planning, quality improvement, and service evaluation
- In-service education and supervision of students/volunteers
- Strong interpersonal skills for team collaboration and family communication
