Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide patient-centered occupational therapy interventions under the supervision of an OTR to help people regain independence
- Assist with evaluation, treatment planning, and documentation to ensure quality, measurable outcomes
- Implement therapeutic activities and adaptive techniques tailored to each patient’s goals
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, families, and caregivers to coordinate care and maximize progress
- Monitor and document patient response to treatment, adjusting plans and communicating changes promptly
- Educate patients and caregivers on home programs, adaptive equipment, and safety strategies to support long-term success
Qualifications
- Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) credential required
- Current or eligible for California state licensure or registration as required by facility
- Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification preferred
- Comfortable documenting in electronic medical records and following facility protocols
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills; ability to engage patients and families
- Previous experience in outpatient, acute care, or rehab settings preferred but motivated new grads are welcome to apply
Education
- Associate degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant or equivalent accredited program (or evolving to meet facility requirements)
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of therapeutic techniques, adaptive equipment, and activity analysis
- Skilled in patient assessment, goal setting, and outcome measurement
- Proficient with clinical documentation and care coordination
- Ability to modify treatment plans based on patient progress and safety considerations
- Good problem solving, time management, and interpersonal skills
