Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, evidence-based postpartum care to mothers and newborns in a couplet care setting
- Monitor fetal and newborn status using EFM (Fetal Link) and Cerner, and intervene as needed
- Perform thorough assessments, create individualized care plans, and document care accurately in Cerner
- Collaborate closely with OB and neonatology teams who are available 24/7 to optimize patient outcomes
- Educate new parents on postpartum recovery, newborn care, and breastfeeding support
- Escalate concerns promptly and participate in safe patient handoffs and team communications
- Maintain required certifications and participate in unit orientation to stay current with best practices
Qualifications
- Active RN license (able to submit with CA license)
- Minimum 2 years of RN experience with at least 1 year of postpartum / mother-baby experience
- Required certifications: NRP (including fetal monitoring), BLS — NIHSS listed as required as well
- Comfortable using Cerner and EFM systems (Fetal Link)
- Ability to work 12-hour day shifts and meet weekend/holiday rotation requirements
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Diploma in Nursing acceptable (BSN not required)
- Active, unrestricted RN license in relevant state
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong postpartum and newborn assessment skills
- Fetal monitoring and electronic fetal monitoring systems (Fetal Link) experience
- Couplet care workflows and AWHONN staffing/ratio familiarity
- Proficiency with Cerner charting system
- Basic neonatal support and pulse oximetry monitoring
- Excellent communication, patient education, and team collaboration skills
