Roles & Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive echocardiogram studies including Transthoracic 2-D, M-Mode, Color-flow Doppler and Transesophageal studies with accuracy and clinical attention to detail
• Conduct exercise and pharmacologic stress echocardiography and other cardiac diagnostic tests such as EKGs, Holter prep/monitoring and cardiac stress tests
• Operate and maintain echocardiography and cardiac diagnostic equipment to ensure high-quality diagnostic data for cardiologists
• Review and document study results accurately and ensure correct scheduling, processing and charging through hospital information systems
• Apply age-specific patient care protocols, including neonatal and pediatric techniques, to ensure safe and appropriate testing for all patients
• Implement infection control and aseptic techniques and maintain proper equipment disinfection
• Serve as a resource to physicians, nursing staff and students; provide preceptorship and clinical guidance as required
• Perform other duties within the scope of practice to support the cardiology team and department goals

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Registered Cardiac Sonographer credential required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Successful completion of an echocardiography certification program or at least 2 years hands-on echocardiography experience
• Preferred: Cardiovascular Sonography certificate and extensive hospital-based echocardiography experience
• Preferred: Experience with neonatal and pediatric echocardiography
• Comfortable providing clinical preceptorship and teaching to students

Education

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Certificate program in Cardiovascular Sonography preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong skills in Transthoracic (2-D) echocardiography, M-Mode and Color-flow Doppler
• Experience with Transesophageal echocardiography and stress echocardiography techniques
• Proficiency in EKG acquisition and Holter monitoring and analysis
• Ability to operate cardiac stress systems and echocardiography equipment
• Familiarity with hospital information systems for scheduling, processing and charging
• Knowledge of infection control, aseptic technique and equipment disinfection
• Comfort working with patients of all ages, including neonatal and pediatric populations
• Excellent communication and collaborative skills with physicians, nursing staff and students
