Roles & Responsibilities

• Independently manage a patient assignment of up to 5 orthopedic patients with confidence and clinical judgment
• Provide focused post-operative nursing care for orthopedic surgery patients, including monitoring for complications
• Perform dressing changes and aspirations as indicated, maintaining strict aseptic technique
• Assess and manage patient pain in collaboration with the care team to optimize recovery
• Document patient care accurately and efficiently using Meditech EMR
• Communicate clearly with surgeons, anesthesiologists, therapists, and family members to ensure coordinated care
• Support unit quality and patient experience goals through teamwork, bedside teaching, and continuous improvement

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice or multistate compact eligibility
• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience, with surgical unit or orthopedic nursing experience preferred
• Demonstrated ability to independently manage 5 patients on a surgical/ortho unit
• Experience using Meditech EMR is required
• Current BLS certification; advanced certifications encouraged

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Knowledge & Skills

• Strong knowledge of orthopedic post-operative care and common ortho procedures
• Skilled in dressing changes, aspirations, and post-op monitoring
• Pain management techniques specific to orthopedic patients
• Proficient documentation and charting in Meditech
• Excellent clinical assessment, critical thinking, and prioritization skills
• Team-player attitude with positive communication and patient-centered care
