Roles & Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate pre-operative nursing care for pediatric patients, ensuring comfort and safety before procedures
• Perform thorough pre-op assessments and prepare charts, equipment, and young patients for the surgical team
• Monitor vital signs, manage IV access, and promptly report changes to anesthesia and surgical staff
• Educate patients and families on pre-op instructions and expectations in a clear, family-centered way
• Coordinate closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and perioperative staff to ensure smooth patient flow
• Document care accurately in the electronic health record and participate actively in orientation and team huddles

Qualifications

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Missouri
• Experience in pediatric pre-op nursing or perioperative/pediatric settings preferred
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; pediatric advanced certifications are a plus
• Comfort working with children and families; strong communication and assessment skills
• Willingness to complete orientation and unit-specific training

Education

• Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred
• Active RN license (Missouri) required

Knowledge & Skills

• Pediatric patient assessment and age-appropriate communication
• Pre-operative protocols and perioperative safety practices
• IV therapy basics, vital sign monitoring, and pediatric medication administration
• Electronic health record documentation and accurate charting
• Infection control standards and sterile technique awareness
• Team collaboration, time management, and family-centered care
