Roles & Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate pre-operative nursing care tailored to pediatric patients
- Perform thorough pre-op assessments and document findings clearly in the chart
- Educate patients and families about pre-procedure instructions and what to expect
- Coordinate with surgeons, anesthesia, and perioperative staff to ensure smooth patient flow
- Support patient safety, infection control, and proper identification procedures
- Participate actively in orientation and ongoing training to maintain high standards of care
Qualifications
- Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Massachusetts or eligible for MA licensure
- BLS certification required; PALS certification strongly preferred for pediatric care
- Comfortable working with pediatric patients and their families
- Strong communication and teamwork skills in a fast-paced surgical environment
- Prior pre-operative or pediatric nursing experience is a plus
Education
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN); BSN preferred
Knowledge & Skills
- Pediatric assessment and age-appropriate communication techniques
- Pre-operative screening, documentation, and patient education
- Familiarity with perioperative workflows and safety protocols
- Basic IV skills and medication administration knowledge
- Electronic health record charting and effective interdisciplinary communication
