Roles & Responsibilities

• Assess patients across the mother-baby continuum using the nursing process and provide compassionate, evidence-based care
• Implement individualized care plans, monitor patient status, and intervene when conditions change
• Document care accurately and thoroughly in the electronic medical record to support continuity and compliance
• Lead care teams through effective delegation, supervision, and validation of patient outcomes
• Serve as a charge nurse when assigned: coordinate admissions, discharges, transfers, and staff coverage
• Educate patients and families, identifying learning needs and reinforcing safe care practices
• Promote infection control, safe patient handling, and other safety practices on the unit
• Participate in professional development and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives

Qualifications

• Current Washington State RN licensure (required)
• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
• BLS (Healthcare Provider) – obtain within 30 days if not current
• AAP NRP Advanced required for Mother-Baby unit (prior to end of orientation)
• AWHONN Intermediate Fetal Monitoring or Electronic Fetal Monitoring certification (as specified)
• ACLS to be obtained within 6 months of hire (per unit requirements)
• STABLE course completion optional/encouraged (within 6 months)
• RN-C in specialty preferred
• Minimum one year of RN experience preferred; acute care/OB experience preferred

Education

• Graduation from an accredited school of nursing (ADN or BSN acceptable as listed by facility)

• Patient assessment across physiologic, psychosocial, and cognitive domains
• Nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation
• Critical thinking and clinical decision-making in acute situations
• Patient education and family-centered teaching
• Accurate documentation in EMR and regulatory compliance
• Delegation, supervision, and charge nurse leadership
• Infection control and safe patient handling
• Electronic fetal monitoring and fetal assessment skills
• Effective communication and teamwork
